Description: | As a community here on Contrebombarde, we're spoiled with a lot of fine examples of "Hollandse Koraalkunst." This chorale fantasia is based on Psalm 98 from the Genevan Psalter. The tune is also known as "RENDEZ À DIEU" and can be found paired with various texts in almost any English hymnal.
The composer of this setting is Wim Magré, who lived from 1962 to 2019. Magré studied organ with Willem Hendrik Zwart, organist of the famed Bovenkerk in Kampen, and later with Dorthy de Rooij at the conservatory in Zwolle. An active musician, he conducted several choirs in Holland, and also recorded many CDs, some together with his son Wilbert, who is a pianist. He also contributed to two organ DVDs in the Bovenkerk in Kampen. In fact, it is through his contribution to the DVD "Hollandse Koraalkunst" (highly recommended viewing!) that I initially became aware of him. |
