For me as a timpanist in an orchestra pit, La Traviata is another of those operas that one can play night after night and never tire of it. Fine music wells continually from the score - it is a Grand Opera and even the many recitatives are full of musical richness. There is always a sense of excitement and drama as the lights go down for the first bars of the prelude.
