Description: | A strange piece of music we have here. It is listed in the appendix of the Bach Werke Verzeichnis, then it is named in an edition of music by the probably better-known Bach son Wilhelm Friedemann, but it is by Johann Peter Kellner, for me Bach's best pupil.
The piece reminds me very strongly of the Fugue in E flat major from the Well-Tempered Part 2 BWV876, which Kellner's work does not approach in terms of counterpoint and compositional achievement. Nevertheless, it has its charm and is also relatively easy to play.
It is very dark, many passages take place in the lower part of the bass clef and also at the end we have bass clefs in all systems - very, very unusual .....
I played it live, slower, using a metronome, and only increased the tempo at the end, and modulated the trills a little. |
