It's Sweelinck-year in Holland, so I cannot avoid playing and recording some of his pieces. These beautiful variations were probably set on paper after Sweelinck improvised them. Sweelinck was on the brink of Renaissance and Baroque, which you can hear clearly in these variations.
I've played them since I was 14 years old and actually never dared to record them, somehow these variations are so perfect (at least for me), it feels if I only can devaluate them. Nevertheless, I did record them...
Also a nice chance to use the two softer reeds of the manuals as solo stops (Vox 8' & Dulciaan 8').
