Paul Zicheng Fu (1928–2021) was born in China and graduated from the Central Conservatory of Music in 1952. He was a student of Ernst Weißler and Arthur Schierch, who had escaped Nazi Germany to live in China. Fu was assistant professor of piano, theory, and composition at the Studio of Music at Qing Hua University in Beijing from 1954 to 1978. In 1978, he joined the faculty of the Beijing Teachers College where he was associate professor of theory and composition until 1988. In 1988, Fu emigrated to Canada where his daughter had become a member of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. Fu worked in Canada as a substitute piano teacher and accompanist for ballet classes at Mount Royal College in Calgary, Alberta. From 1991 until 1994 he studied at the University of Calgary, obtaining a master’s degree in composition. (from information provided by Gordon Rumson)
