Description:
Albert de Klerk (1917-1998) was a Dutch composer, organist and conductor. De Klerk studied at the Amsterdam Conservatory, where he was taught by Anthon van der Horst, Cornelis de Wolf and Hendrik Andriessen. From the age of sixteen until his death De Klerk was organist on the Adema organ of the Sint-Josephkerk in Haarlem. From 1956 to 1982 he was, together with Piet Kee, city organist of Haarlem and played the Müller organ of the Sint Bavokerk. This was unique, because De Klerk was from a Catholic background. Playing the Cavaillé-Coll organ in the Haarlem Concertgebouw was also one of his duties.

His compositions are diverse, but mainly influenced by the French romantic and modern school. This piece presented here however is non-typical for his composition style. It was written for a wedding of some friends, originally for oboe & bassoon, but transcribed for the organ.

This Cavaillé-Coll/Mutin organ in Bégard has some important neoclassical elements with clearly audible sharper sound. Therefore it's perfect for this Noel from a modern composer in a (mostly) classical style, but with some twists.
