Advent and Christmas (74): Toccata 'pastorale' F

Pachelbel's Toccata in F major with the later added nickname 'pastorale' is divided into two parts:

The first part consists of falling and rising cadence scales; the second 12/8-part includs organ points and triad motifs in simple harmonies, which are quite close to the pastoral style. The middle voice contains motif repetitions and arpeggiated passages, sounding like harp music. The bright sound of the organ's Zimbelstern underlines the charming pastoral character of this unique work.
