César Franck (10 December 1822 — 8 November 1890)
Belgian/French composer - depending who you talk to!
This is a Sortie based on "Laissez paître vos bêtes" (Venez, divin Messie). The tune is an old melody "Let your beasts graze" and was a Christmas hymn which was later used with words "Come Divine Messiah" as an advent hymn. The middle section reminds us that although Franck was a romantic composer he was firmly influenced by Bach. I cut out the repeat of the first section.
There seem to be two versions out there, this one and one with a couple of more complex animated parts.
