Gustav Adolf Merkel (November 12, 1827, Oberoderwitz, Kingdom of Saxony – October 30, 1885, Dresden) was a German organist and composer. Influenced by Mendelssohn. Taught by Schumann and held the appointment as organist at Dresden Cathedral (I've heard the organ there, it is a mightily impressive organ!)
Here we have a small piece from Op.37 number 2. From the small number of pieces I've played/heard he has a style that mixes Baroque with slight romanticism.
