| Description: | Sweelinck just called this piece "Fantasia", but is is in fact an echo- phantasie and a very fine one.
Though the Steinmeyer is ofcourse no "baroque instrument", I herewith pick up the glove Ralph threw at me: try to play Sweelinck on the big Steinmeyer and see how that turns out.
Well, it can be done, and if the organ was "my" instrument I would not hesitate to play old music on it also in recitals.
Apart from the fact, that it is not intended for this kind of music, the big space tends to drown out fine details, as with any organ in a very big church.
Having said that, I'm not displeased with the outcome.
The second manual was used as main manual for introduction and apotheose of the piece and throughout for the accompaniment of the solo voices on the first and third manual (I= Cornet and III= Sesqualitera) in the echo parts. |
