Composer: Bach, J. S.
Sample Set: Silver Octopus Father Willis 1894 (pre release)
Software: Hauptwerk VI
Genre: Baroque
Description:
The second half of BWV 532 uploaded a little bit later due to the single upload per day restriction.
I use the Novello edition which gives some (often limited) information and suggestions for their published pieces. In the case of the D major fugue there isn’t that much apart from suggesting it’s played on the Great throughout with a reduction at bar 53 and “add” at bar 86. At bar 111, I decided to experiment with treating the alternate entries almost like a fanfare and added the Sw. reed to a gradually increasing ensemble. Not sure whether it works or not. I remained with a “no doubles” set up until the last bar. Most of the piece was played on just the Swell, Choir and Pedal plus couplers with no Great stops engaged until a considerable way in. The Father Willis typically, has only 4 stops three of which are at 16’ so it is somewhat limited without resorting to pedal couplers.
This registration may not be to everyone’s taste but I hope that it presents something slightly different to the norm.
