Born 4 July 1834 in Dresden.
Died 26 March 1916 in Dresden
Pupil Leipzig Cons. 1852-5 (Hauptmann, Lobe, Plaidy, Rjchter).
Taught in Leipzig; 1858, teacher in Dresden Cons.; 1875, Professor. Excellent pedagogue; gifted composer.
Still active in Dresden (1916).
Wrote numerous sonatas, sonatinas and studies also many male choruses some suites for string-orch.
Also a mass and 4, 6, and 8 part motets.
