Description: | Svend Erik Tarp (1908–1994) — Pastorale, op. 87c (1982) for organ
Danish composer Svend Erik Tarp (1908–1994) was one of the Danish composers of his generation who sought a different direction from the German-dominated Danish musical culture. Tarp’s early work drew influence from France, especially from the composers of “Les Six,” and also from the music of Prokofiev. His later works became more intense in tone, though retaining the clear textures and a certain kind of neo-classicism. Tarp spent his career in various musical administrative posts, primarily decades as musical advisor and then general manager of KODA (the Danish Performing Right Society.) Though his administrative work limited composition time, he was still able to complete a large number of compositions, including 10 orchestral symphonies, concertos, operas, ballets, vocal works, and much chamber music.
