Description: | A few days ago I completed one of the incomplete choral preludes by Georg Andreas Sorge from manuscript Go. S. 597. As I rather liked the result, I thought to try my luck with one of the other incomplete choral preludes.
In the manuscript it lacks the begining and the end, yet the melody is recognizable as the melody of "Allein Gott in der Höh sei Ehr".
Again I wanted to stay as close as possible to the style of Sorge. This time I had to compose more material than with the last one. As the beginning is lacking in the manuscript I had to come up with an introduction that has some relation with the rest of the piece. And there are two lines of the choral melody for which I had to compose a new accmpaniment. The rest of the piece however is Sorge's.
The challenge is of course to not look in the score and try and hear where my music stops and Sorge's music begins.
On my website I write a little more about proces and choices. Story and score available here: http://partitura.org/index.php/georg-andreas-sorge-allein-gott-in-der-hoh-sei-ehr |
