Composer: Whitlock, Percy
Sample Producer: Lavender Audio
Sample Set: Hereford Cathedral Willis Organ
Software: Hauptwerk VII
Genre: Contemporary
Description:
I stumbled across this piece while searching for an album containing another organ Sonata I am interested in.

I immediately fell in love, and am happy to present my take on Percy Whitlock's March "Dignity and Impudence"

Although best known as an organist, Whitlock's musicianship effortlessly extended to light music. Writing in an accessible style, his light music is notable for its overall easygoing style, virtuoso orchestration and tunefulness. In this transcription by Malcolm Riley the music transfers masterfully to the organ. Originally written in 1932 for the Bournemouth Municipal Orchestra, the composer used to play it on the organ himself.

Although we understand that Whitlock himself may not have been a dog lover, the fact remains that this wonderful piece shares a title with the 1830s painting by Sir Edwin Henry Landseer. (Meanwhile Elgar most certainly loved his dogs, and perhpas this may have directed PW to choosing this title for his work?) https://www.tate.org.uk/art/artworks/landseer-dignity-and-impudence-n00604

Whitlock's light music is not as well known as it should be, organists have an opportunity to bring this back to the concert circuit! Is this more Elgar than Elgar? Pomp and Circumstance 4.5?

I play this on the sampleset of Hereford Cathdral which I have enhanced slightly with an additional reverb perspective created with Hauptwerk's VII Mixer/Convolution engine.
A rear channel is constructed by routing perspective 2 through the Groningen/Rear impulse response reverb.
