Karl Osterland (b. 1956) — Prelude on “Erhalt uns, Herr” (2005) for organ
American organist and composer Karl Osterland (b. 1956) is a native of Michigan where he began playing the organ at age 10. He earned degrees (BA and MM) in organ performance from the University of Michigan where he was a student of Robert Clark and Marilyn Mason. He also studied composition with William Bolcom. After various church positions in Ann Arbor and Detroit, he became Music Director and Organist at Detroit’s Historic Trinity Lutheran Church in 1991. In addition to his activities as a church musician, Osterland has had a career involving work in hospital administration and as the co-founder and president of a national temporary staffing agency. His organ and choral compositions have been published by Augsburg Fortress.
