Written in 1886, the Sonata No. 1 in C Sharp minor, Op. 5 is an important landmark in English Organ Music. This Andante, the middle movement, is reminiscent of Mendelssohn, and was initially published independently - it is an attractive and accessible work and well worth adding to your repertoire!
Basil Harwood (11 April 1859 – 3 April 1949) also made the pilgrimage to Leipzig, and like Walter Battison Haynes studied with Robbert Papperitz.
