Anthony St. Pierre (b. 1956) — Solace at the Organ (2007) for organ
Canadian composer Anthony St. Pierre (b. 1956) was born in Schenectady, New York (to Canadian parents) and educated at Ohio State University (B.Mus. in composition) and Washington University (M.Mus. in historical performance practice). He moved to Canada in 1980 and played oboe with the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra of Toronto before focusing primarily on composition. St. Pierre has composed extensively for recorder (more than 125 works have been made available through the American Recorder Society) as well as in other vocal and instrumental genres. Drawing on his dual background in historical performance and composition, St. Pierre has had a particular interest in composing sets of fantasy variations for various ensembles and scoring on the famous “La Folía” bass/chord progression.
