Description: | Since I admire the organ works of North German baroque composers a lot, this is one of my favourite Bach preludes. Especially the prelude is heavily inspired by North German music, which Bach knew so well. Therefore I took some freedoms in interpretation, especially regarding tempo changes and rubati, as if it was a Buxtehude toccata.
I often hesitate to upload a Bach piece, since there are many, many interpretations out there which largely overshadow my interpretation. Nevertheless, I happily share the excitement I feel when playing this piece. The scales, the short pedal soli, the spectacular chords, the simple but powerful fugue theme: it's a true masterpiece of the young Bach (probably in his twenties), that I like so much.
There are several editions of this piece with some differences, I used the Bärenreiter edition. |
