Description:
מאַרגאַריטקעלעך

Well, what is it now?

It is Hebrew and means "daisy". A girl with golden blonde hair is standing in a meadow picking daisies, and while she is standing there, a man with black hair comes up and asks: "What are you doing here? She replies: "I'm picking daisies". Did I mention that he was a handsome man, well aware of his effect on the opposite sex, how can a girl resist him? But she delights in nature and continues to pick daisies.

And so the song continues, stanza by stanza. After a short seduction, the girl remembers her mother's words and is ashamed, the night is black and black the cross in the background - the man has disappeared just like the sun, as quickly as he had come. The girl is still sitting in the forest, gazing into the distance, she is dreaming and murmuring the song to herself.

- A Yiddish folk song - on a sadness scale of 1 to 10, it would score an even 10. A minor key that couldn't be more "plump". My song movement from 1997 underlines the sadness, which continues in the trio and later in the fugue. The latter ends in a radiant major, but the movement closes with a full organ and a bitter, hauntingly admonishing minor chord.
