Bach's 'Orgelbüchlein' is full of magnificent miniatures and BWV 630, a setting of Bartholomäus Gesius' 'Heut triumphieret Gottes Sohn' is an exuberant celebration of Christ's resurrection lifting us from the despair so evident at the end of ‘O Mensch, bewein’ BWV 622. The persistent scalic movement is perhaps reminiscent of the bells ringing out on Easter Day, whilst he motivic pedal part, almost chaconne-like, firmly beats the devil back to his dark dominion, Bach clearly drawing on Stolzhagen's text, 'He has mightily thrown down his enemy'.
The newly-sampled Janke organ of the Lutheran Stadtkirche Bückeburg is very much in the Mid-German baroque style and thus perhaps ideal for Bach. It certainly has a fine plenum and Sonus Paradisi has very generously offered the entire organ for free in surround-sound (2 perspectives). It's highly recommended!
