Summer arrives today at
5:14 AM here in Jersey City.
A few days ago, several people told me that they enjoy my annual "Summertime Dream" series, and if I was planning to do it again this year.
I'm glad that pieces are enjoyed, and "Yes!," I am planning on doing as many summer pieces as possible.
To start the season off, I found "Sunset Shadows" by Russell Snively Gilbert. It is third movement in the suite, "Notre Dame on a Summer' Day." It was published by the White-Smith Music Publishing Co. in 1930.
Unfortunately, I only have the score for the third movement, the other two being: "Sunrise on a Window," and "Birds among the Spires."
"Sunset Shadows" is dedicated: "To Willard Irving Nevins," but I have no information on him.
I also have very little info on Russell Snively Gilbert, other than that he was born on May 5, 1890 and died in September of 1965.
This work is attractive in its old-fashioned approach, but it is peaceful, warm, and hopefully able to bring feelings of peace and contentment into the heart of the listener.
The score is attached below.
I wish everyone happiness, peace and blessings during this summer season. I also with the same to those "down under" who are entering the winter season. :-)
More "Summertime Dreams" coming soon!
