I had hoped to have this ready for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations but since it's still the Jubilee year it remains relevant.
I reckon this is so much better than the alternative Crown Imperial and it deserves to be counted amongst the best of them all in terms of "Pomp and Circumstance" pieces
There are three versions that I know of. The rather scaled down Gower one, the Sir William McKie version and another more recent one by Challenger.
I have chosen the McKie version. All of them are difficult but the McKie is probably the most difficult but is also the best.
Australian by birth, McKie was organist at Westminster Abbey and was incumbent both for the wedding and coronation of her majesty Elizabeth II
Although the majority of it is in E major, the central theme is in C major although it returns in E Major towards the end. I have never thought of E Major as being a particularly difficult key but it is here.
I have to admit playing and recording this in several sections because there is absolutely no way that currently, I can get through the whole piece from start to finish in one go without making at least one or two mistakes along the way.
So, a bit later than expected but here it is.
