Description:
Thomas Babou was a Flemish composer and organist who lived and worked in Liège. Unfortunately we know very little about him. He was organist at the Collégiale Saint-Jean-l'Évangéliste de Liège, at least from 1687 until 1726. Thanks to his son Jean-François-Pascal Babou many pieces of father Thomas survived. Babou's music contain French and Italian influences. Several of his pieces can also be played on harpsichord, however this particular piece certainly is meant for organ.

This 'Fantaisie des Trompettes basse et haute' is clearly French influenced. However, it differs in a nice way. Especially the short Fanfare at the end of this piece is very effective, especially with the 'Trompettes fantastiques' of the Isnard organ of Saint-Maximin.
