Franck dedicates this work to Lefébure-Wély - the two were contemporaries and generally have very different styles. In this work, Franck seems to conjour up much of the tongue-in-cheek fun that we associate with his peer, yet gives it very much his own spin.
I have to wonder - was this a "well I can compose that kind of music too..." moment for Franck? What do you think?
