Reimund Hess (b. 1935) — Präludium in F (2022) for organ

German composer Reimund Hess (b. 1935) was born in Neustrelitz and was educated at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz where he studied music performance, music education, English/American studies, and finally earned a PhD in musicology. Hess’s principal career was spent working in radio, first at Hessischer Rundfunk (1964), then Saarländisches Rundfunk (1965–78), and finally from 1978 until his retirement as the head of the music department for Südwestfunk/Südwestrundfunk (specializing in pop music) and as specialist delegate to the Union of European Broadcasters. During this time, Hess maintained a prolific output as composer and arranger, producing more than 500 published works in numerous genres. He was also active as an arranger, concert/recording producer, conductor, and pianist for many radio and television productions. Hess also worked for many years as a church musician and has written numerous new hymns and songs (NGL) for the dioceses of Limburg and Mainz as well as compositions in various other sacred genres. With his wife, lyricist Veronika Krayer, he has been particularly prolific in the area of sacred songs in pop styles (“Sacropop”).
