Ave Maria

This piece is played on a new Hauptwerk release of the organ at Waldkirchen, which has recorded tremulant samples in place of the previous synthesized tremulants. The tremulants at Waldkirchen are very gentle and give a soft edge in particular to the flute ranks. They are used in the accompaniment in this recording.

This well-known setting of the Ave Maria is the result of Gounod taking Bach's Prelude in C from Book 1 of the Well-tempered Clavier with only small modifications and superimposing his melody onto it. My performance is in G flat major, for the simple reason that this was the key in which I accompanied a soprano singer a few years back.
