Description: | Please enjoy my transcription of Pavel Chesnokov's "Let my prayer arise".
I played this as prelude to our All Soul's day requiem mass (being so plaintive, it seems to embody a perfect spirit of penitence and sorrow), and thought I'd share it here too.
Originally for a basso profundo soloist in front of a large choir, the original text, sung in Russian, is translated as follows:
Let my prayer arise in Thy sight as incense; and let the lifting up of my hands be an evening sacrifice.
O Lord, I call upon Thee—hear me! Receive the voice of my prayer when I call upon Thee. Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth, and keep watch over the door of my lips. Incline not my heart to evil words, nor to make excuses for sins. |
