This gorgeous and slow piece is based on an ancient Latin hymn from the 13th century. Its melody was adapted by Michael Praetorius from the Gregorian chant following the same text. Buxtehude composed this beautiful chorale prelude which is a perfect segue into Advent, the beginning of the church year. My performance is a bit sloppy and I apologize for that (mostly due to the fact that I am still a beginner when it comes to alto clef and it requires a bit of thought for me to play—a worthy challenge!).
