Composer: Hugh, Brent
Sample Producer: Milan Digital Audio
Sample Set: Salisbury Cathedral Father Willis
Software: Hauptwerk IV
Genre: Contemporary
Description:
In my dearth of searching for nice Advent works, I came across this one. I immediately rejected it, but tried it again, completely reworking the registration, and also "rewriting" a few phrases, as they are not physically playable as written.

The music is certainly what I'd call "new agey," and isn't the sort of thing I'd normally play, but I'm pleased with the result of the reworked version, and hope that my listeners will enjoy it.

Pianist and mathematician Brent DeRay Hugh was b. 13th May 1963. He has used DNA sequences to generate minimalist music. He is a composer, lyricist, performer, and arranger, who has been performing, composing, and teaching music for more than 45 years. He has degrees in music from Utah State University and the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music. He studied piano with Lenora Ford Neal, Gary Amano, and Ruth Ann Rich and composition with Dean Madsen and Gerald Kemner.

Hugh was a pioneer in bringing classical music to the internet in the early 1990s, with several highly rated performances in MP3.com's Classical Music area and an original composition "Music of the Human Genome" hitting the Top 20 on MP3.com's Big Chart. Hugh was one of the first to post classical compositions online on a Free Music page (released via the "Free Music Philosophy"). For many years he hosted the "Music Instruction Software" page, one of the first such pages on the internet.

This work deals with one of Advent's biggest themes - waiting.

It's hard to wait, isn't it? Sometimes, it seems that what we are waiting for will never come. Sometimes, it doesn't, but other times...

The score is attached below. Please keep in mind that the attached is the original score, and not the "version" you hear in this performance.

I wish you peace in this season and time of waiting.
