Description: | Vater unser im Himmelreich is Luther's explanation of the Lord's Prayer: the only prayer that came directly from Jesus himself and that therefore still has a special place in Christianity.
In addition to being sung during communion, Vater unser im Himmelreich was also associated with Sunday Rogate in Bach's time, the fifth Sunday after Easter and therefore also the Sunday before Ascension Day.
Traditionally, processions passed through the fields.
Of the four different organ arrangements that Bach made of this chorale, this is the most subdued and timeless.
The piece is written in the stile antico - the 'old', vocal, polyphonic sixteenth-century compositional style.
Played on combined 8 an 4' stops of the Hauptwerk and Brüstungs-Positiv and
Princip 16, Copel 16, Octav 8 and Flet 4 of the pedal. |
