Description:
Hereby a preview of the upcoming Hauptwerk sample set of the Metzler organ (2010) of the Annakirche in Düren, sampled by Piotr Grabowski. BWV 733 is also known as "Meine Seele erhebt den Herren", the German Magnificat, but the official title is "Fuga sopra il Magnificat". Although it is called Fuga, it isn't a typical fugue as we are used to. Bach used elements of the Magnificat melody and let it come back throughout the piece in different manners, juxtaposing it with many other small motifs.

It's probably written during Bach's Weimar years in 1708-1717. A young Bach who doesn't like to follow the exact rules of composing a fugue. And luckily he didn't, since this is a true masterpiece. Wait till the pedal part enters, brilliant...
