Prélude, Choral Varié et Fugue sur "Veni redemptor gentium (Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland)

Inspired by Maurice Duruflé’s “Prélude, Adagio et Choral varié sur ‘Veni Creator,’” Margaretha Christina de Jong has created a colorful and substantial addition to the contemporary Advent organ repertory.

Keeping in mind her nationality (Dutch) and the characteristics of the contemporary organs of that region, I have decided to pair her piece with the glorious 87 stop “Sonnenorgel” in Görlitz, Germany. Sonus Paradisi, the Hauptwerk producer, has created a spectacular surround sound sample set which is crystal clear, but also showcases the sumptuous acoustics of this cavernous building. It was great fun to “play with” the reverberation as I created this recording.
