Weihnachten op.145

This meditation on christmas themes is one of the last organ pieces of Max Reger.

It has three distinct sections:
The first section describes the darkness of the world waiting for the saviour and is to be registered in "dark colours". It uses the choral "Es kommt ein Schiff geladen" (A ship is coming laden). The second section treats "Hosianna in der Höhe" (Hosianna in the hights).

The third section describes the nativity using the hymns "Vom himmel hoch da komm ich her" (From Heaven Above to Earth I Come) and Stille Nacht ("Silent night").

The Walker organ of Annaberg with its many colours fits very well to this piece.
