Sample Set: BP - Niederzwehren
Software: GrandOrgue
Genre: Contemporary
Description:
An old acquaintance - at least for me. Yesterday I heard an earlier version again and thought to myself that the piece sounds a lot better when it is played more slowly and on the sample set of the Noeske organ in the parish church of the largest part of Kassel, Niederzwehren.
This sample set is from Binauralpipes (hello Dietrich). It is free of charge and only available for GrandOrgue.
Since GrandOrgue is also free, this would be an opportunity to try out the software with the beautiful sample sets by Piotr Grabowski and Binauralpipes.

Now to the piece itself.

It is based on the beautiful chorale "Die Güldne Sonne" (The Golden Sun) and is here very much fixated on the enchanting melody, which can be heard in all registers and voices, enlarged, diminished, reversed, sometimes in major and sometimes in minor.
The lynchpin of the fantasia is a fanfare that sounds in unison with the first notes of the chorale melody several times in the full organ. The whole is embedded with the Rückpositiv, which is quite thin with the beautiful flute notes of the Noeske organ. These flute voices in the soprano, alto and tenor shimmy upwards in an almost frantic movement, while in the pedal, as a calming of the harried flutes, they try to be brought to rest by parts of the chorale melody.
A pedal solo, almost impossible to play live, introduces the coda and the fantasia ends with the chorale, in unison in all voices.
This is followed by an expansive fugue for 4 voices, strictly performed, with what I find to be a very fitting counterpoint to the chorale melody.

A simple chorale movement rounds off the opulent work.
