English Translation of this chorale:
1.The old year has passed away.
We thank you, Lord Jesus Christ,
that you have kept us safe
from danger throughout this year.

2. We ask of you, eternal son
of the Father on the highest throne,
to guard you lowly Church
for the time that is yet to come.

3. Do not take your healing word from us,
which is the soul's greatest refuge:
Guard us from the Pope's idolatrous teaching.
Lord, be our constant protector.

4. Help us, so that we flee from the path of sin
and devote ourselves to a holy life;
Please forget our past transgressions,
And let your grace fill us this new year.

5. Grant us to live a blessed Christian life,
and to die in peace and joy;
Also, to be resurrected on that Day,
and enter heaven to dwell with You.

6.We would worship and praise You
with the angels for all eternity.
O Jesus, increase our faith that
your name may receive the honor and glory.
