Three Fugues No 2 in A minor

Again I have been distracted from learning a big pile of music I have looked out because the name Glinka came into my head. I found he wrote 3 fugues (1833) so of course any organist would have to love those.

1st June1804 – 15 February 1857 was the first Russian composer to gain wide recognition within his own country and is often regarded as the fountainhead of Russian classical music. His compositions were an important influence on Russian composers, notably the members of The Five, who produced a distinctive Russian style of music. Mily Balakirev (the leader), César Cui, Modest Mussorgsky, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and Alexander Borodin.

After some time in Italy Glinka travelled to Berlin in 1833 but he realised that his life's mission was to return to Russia, write in a Russian manner, and do for Russian music what Donizetti and Bellini had done for Italian music. Amount his most popular works today are his 2 operas A Life for the Tsar (1836) and Ruslan and Ludmila (1842). He composed at least 160 works including for stage and orchestra and many piano chamber and vocal compositions. My favourites are Trio Pathétique in D minor and Septet in E♭ major.
