The word “Eirenicon” comes from an ancient Greek word meaning a proposal made as a means of achieving peace. In this piece, there are repeated entreaties between two voices in canon, interspersed with musical material derived from the chant for ‘dona nobis pacem’ (give us peace) from the plainsong Agnus Dei.
