Description:
From the Orgelbuchlein, No. 22 of 45: Christus, der uns selig macht (BWV 620) by J.S. Bach (1685-1750).

Featured organ is the 1738 Christian Müller organ from St. Bavo Church, Haarlem, in Holland, which consists of 3 manuals and 118 ranks. I am using the sample set from Voxus organs through Hauptwerk technology.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF CHORALE:
1. The Messiah, who saves us,
and has done no evil,
for us was arrested at midnight like a thief,
led before godless people,
falsely accused, jeered, mocked, and spat upon,
as the Scripture says.

2. In the first hour of the day
he was shamefully
presented as a murderer
to Pilate the Gentile,
who found him innocent, and undeserving
of death, and therefore he was sent
to King Herod.

3. At the third hour, the Son of God
was beaten with whips,
and his head was pierced with a crown of thorns;
they dressed him for scorn and mockery.
He was beaten cruelly, and he had to carry
the cross to his death by himself.

4. At the sixth hour, he was nailed
naked and bare to the cross,
where his blood was shed,
and where he prayed with lamentations:
the spectators, and even those who hung with him,
mocked him until the sun withdrew its light.

5. Jesus cried out at the ninth hour,
lamenting himself forsaken;
soon gall and vinegar were put into his mouth;
then he gave up his spirit,
and the earth trembled, the
curtain of the temple was torn in two,
and many rocks were shattered into pieces.

8.Help us, O Christ, Son of God,
that through your bitter suffering,
we may always avoid all evil in submission to you.
Let us be fruitful by reflecting on your death and its cause,
and in return, although poor and weak,
we will offer to you praise.
