ENGLISH TRANSLATION:
1. While Jesus was hanging on the cross,
His whole body was wounded
with bitter pains.
Consider in your heart the seven words that he spoke there.

2. First of all he spoke lovingly
to the Father in the kingdom of heaven
with strength and thoughtfulness:
"Father, forgive them; for they not know what they do."

3. Then think of the mercy
that God bestowed on the thief,
when he spoke very graciously: "Truly,
today you will be with me in paradise."

4. The Lord also thought of his mother
when he said the third word to her:
"Woman, here is your son.
John, here is your mother; she is now given to you."

5. Now notice what the fourth word was:
"I thirst" he cried to God in a loud voice.
Because he desired the salvation of mankind,
he endured the nails.

6. For the fifth, think of his bitterness
which God cries out on the cross:
"My God, My God, why did you forsake me?"
The misery he must suffer
is beyond measure.

7. The sixth was a strong word,
which many sinners have heard
from his divine mouth:
"It is finished!" Such great suffering is completed
at this hour.

8.For the seventh: "Father, into your hands
I commend my spirit;
This is my last moment;
now my soul will depart into rest."

9. Who honors God's Martyr,
and often remember the seven words,
God will take good care of him
on earth with his grace,
and then into eternal life.
