Description: | Darwin Wolford (b. 1936) — Alleluia (1990) for organ
American organist and composer Darwin Wolford (b. 1936) was born in Logan, Utah and was educated at Utah State University and the University of Utah (MM and PhD in Organ and Composition). His teachers included Leroy Robertson, John La Montaine, and Ned Rorem. Wolford composed widely for choir, orchestra, organ, and piano, among other instruments. He was Director of Organ Studies at Brigham Young University-Idaho until his retirement in 2004. Wolford published more than 350 compositions and was also active as an editor of organ anthologies. He was a member of the General Music Committee and the Executive Hymnbook Committee for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, resulting in the publication of the denomination’s 1985 hymnal and its 1989 children’s songbook.
