| Description: | Better known now for his choral works, Samuel Sebastian Wesley wrote just 17 organ works with the Andante in C being one of his later organ works, published by Novello in 1872. At the time, he was well known as a performer, and noted for his improvisation, which commonly included extempore fugues. In the original sources for this piece, the music was laid out on two staves, though use of pedals in general was understood and necessary when the notes fall beyond the reach of two hands. This is a relatively simple piece, employing light and shade between the three manuals on which it works best, and characterised by melodic invention with some chromatic elements. The solo reed used here is the Solo Clarinet. |
