Salisbury Cathedral Father Willis

Genre: | Baroque |
Description: | The fifth and final movement from the cantata entitled Jesus nahm zu sich die Zwölfe (Jesus gathered the twelve to Himself), this chorale was originally scored for an Oboe, two violins, a viola, and a continuo. The German Ertöt uns durch dein Güte translates to Kill us through your goodness.
The chorale melody appears in the tenor voice, and in this arrangement, is played in the pedal. The Salisbury Willis has a diverse array of colors suited to this piece. In the right hand, I used the Great Claribel Flute, Stopped, Diapason, and coupled the Swell Lieblich Gedact. For the walking bass line, I use the Choir 16’ Lieblich, 8’Flute Harmonique, 8’ Lieblich, and the 8’ Salicional. The melody is played in the pedal with the solo Clarinet.
