This Praeludium pedaliter in manuscript Lynar B3 bears the initials M.F.P.S.W. or M.J.P.S.W, depending on the interpretation of the second initial. It seems common agreement that these initials signify “Magister Johan Pieterszoon Sweelinck”. (source: Partitura)
This mostly homophonic piece is quite strict, static and feels/sounds different compared to other Sweelinck pieces I often play. However, it has its own charm, certainly when using many of the beautiful reeds of the Schnitger organ of the Martinikerk, Groningen.
