Written for chorus, orchestra, and tenor/soprano soloists, The Spirit of England serves as a requiem for those who perished in World War 1.
This Solemn Prelude is a Harvey Grace transcription of the third act, “For the Fallen”. The work has the mournful reverence of an elegy, but also a certain dignity in the louder passages perhaps to remind us of the enormity of the sacrifice of those who perished in the war.
I think the range of colors available on the Salisbury sampleset make it the ideal choice for this piece. In my humble estimation, the Salisbury Tuba has no peer and performs perfectly during the FFF section of this piece.
