| Description: | Henry Coleman (1888-1965) served at a number of churches, and was then Organist of Peterborough Cathedral, and finally at All Saints, Eastbourne. He is quite well-known as a composer of works for "parish choirs." His music is colorful and well-crafted, but within the technical limits of good, "amateur" musicians.
"Finale on 'Hyfrydol,'" is a good example of his style. It is solid and straightforward, and his a nice "swing" to it. At the climax, he indicates that the "Full Great" should be used, but I used the "temporary Solo Tuba stops" for the left hand chords. The "temporary tuba" makes use of the Solo Tromba and "revoiced" Great Trumpet, until the "real tuba" comes in the final additions to the set. While it doesn't have the "clang" of the real one, it still sounds very nice, and is satisfactory for the most part.
Here again, you really want the big reeds to complete the Full Organ. The pedal just isn't "heavy" enough, and the final notes just SCREAMS for the 32' Reed! ;-) |
