Description: | A.P.F. Boëly - Fantaisia pour le verset Judex Crederis au Te Deum
This piece seems to have been composed for the organ of Saint-Gervais-Saint-Protais, the organ of the Couperins. There is no date associated with this piece, but it was probably composed sometime in the 1830's, when Boëly was either a then associate of J.N. Marrigues, or after the death of Marrigues until 1838. While Boëly returned to Saint-Gervais after his dismissal from Saint-Germain l'Auxerrois in 1851, it is doubtful that he composed it at this time due to the more severe style he adopted at Saint-Germain. The organ of Saint Maximin, being similar in style to that of Saint-Gervais, so a digitized organ after Saint Maximin was used in this recording.
It is in the end interesting and perhaps ironic that of all the pieces after the Judex Crederis that have come down to us, one is by Boëly who is often considered to be for his time a bastion of the then considered antiquated and serious music of the 17th and 18th centuries.
This recording is a redo of one I made some time ago on the virtual organ after Nancy, but on Saint Maximin this time. |
