From the Orgelbuchlein, No. 44 of 45:
Alle Menschen müssen sterben (BWV 643) - J.S. Bach (1685-1750)

Performed by Charles Burks in November, 2023

1695 Schnitger-Hinsz-Freytag Organ at The Dorpskerk of Noordbroek, The Netherlands. 2 Manuals, 24 stops. Sampleset recorded by Sonus Paradisi.

I will start with the setting for organ by Bach, and then read an English translation of the text over the chorale music.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF CHORALE TEXT:
1.All humanity must die,
all flesh passes away like grass;
Whatever lives must perish
if it is to become new again.
This body must decay
if it is to be restored again
and gain the great glory
which is prepared for those who are faithful.

2.Therefore I am quite willing:
when it pleases my God
to give up my life
and I am not troubled about this;
but in the wounds of my Jesus
I have already found redemption,
and my hope in death's agony
is the death of the Lord Jesus.

3.Jesus has died for me,
and his death is my gain;
he has won for me salvation,
therefore I joyfully go from here,
away from the busyness of the world
into God's beautiful heaven
where I shall forever
behold the Trinity.

4. There will be the joyful life
with millions of souls already
surrounded in heavenly splendour
and serving God before his throne.
There the Seraphim are resplendent
and begin the lofty song:
Crying Holy, holy, holy to
God the Father, Son, and Spirit.

7.Ah, I have already beheld
this great glory!
Now I shall be adorned
with the pure garments of heaven
and the golden crown of honour.
I shall stand before the throne of God,
gazing on such joys that can never end.
