Composer: Hel, Erik-Jan van der
Sample Producer: OrganArt Media
Sample Set: 1766 Riepp Heilig-Geist Organ (Surround), Ottobeuren, Germany
Software: Hauptwerk VIII
Genre: Contemporary Baroque
Description:
Erik-Jan van der Hel is an active Dutch composer who has composed some wonderful compositions for organ. Many of them are freely available on IMSLP (check: https://imslp.org/wiki/Category:Van_der_Hel,_Erik-Jan). Advent and Christmas are getting closer, so time to share some lesser known organ works which I can heartily recommend to play during the coming Christmas season. Both compositions are clearly inspired by Johann Sebastian Bach. The first piece is a slow chorale prelude on the famous hymn 'Ich steh an deiner Krippen hier', which made me think of Bach's setting on 'Wer nur den lieben Gott', BWV 691. The second piece is a joyful fugue on 'Den die Hirten lobeten sehre' (also known as Quem pastores laudavere'), which made me think of the last part of Bach's Pastorale BWV 590.

Played on the bèta test version of the upcoming surround sample set of the Holy Ghost organ of Ottobeuren, built by K.J. Riepp.

Settings:
Ich steh... - Front 50, Rear 100, Detune flue pipes 40, Detune reeds 30
Den die Hirten - Front 68, Rear 68, Detune flue pipes 60, Detune reeds 50
