Description: | The third piece in the book is "Prelude on 'Cheshire'" by Gordon Slater (1896-1979), who was successively organist of St. Botolph's Church, Boston, Leicester Cathedral, and finally, Lincoln Cathedral.
"Prelude on 'Cheshire'" is a dark piece, with makes use of the plaintive tones of the Solo organ's Orchestral Oboe, which plays a sort of descant against the Swell strings, often combined with the Stopped Diapason, and sometimes the Open Diapason of the Swell. The 32' Open Wood makes it self "felt" at the end. |
